MissionTo support and promote the Lanark Public Library as a cultural, educational and recreational asset to the Lanark community in order to enhance the quality of life of its citizens.
During the first three years that the Friends of the Library (founded in 2005) have been around, they have hosted, sponsored or been involved in a variety of money making projects to start building a fund to help upgrade and expand the library. Progress is now being made towards a plan to improve the library building itself. So, the library's need for friends will continue. The Friends organization has a not-for-profit structure. This provides some tax benefits for donors and encourages the designation of gifts in wills and trusts as well as for normal, generous gifts. The Friends meet at the library on the third Thursday of each month (7 pm) to plan and review their activities. However, most work is handled by committees to encourage members to help in areas of their personal interest. Members receive a monthly newsletter/meeting notes to be kept current on activities.
Book SalesGently used books, DVDs, audio books, and magazines can be donated at any time to the resale shop. Members and volunteers are always needed to sort and staff for scheduled sales. |
