| Lanark is taking a step in
the direction of renewable energy. June 9th, 2006 Lanark erected a
50 meter (165 feet) MET tower to monitor wind speed near the center
of Carroll County. The data will be available to the public so that
schools, entrepreneurs, farms, etc. that are nearby can use the
information to determine the viability of wind turbines on their
property. The results will be posted monthly at www.illinoiswind.org
beginning in late July, early August.

Rory Artig gets help from Alderman Ron
Strohecker and Alderman John Huggins installing sensors.
Assembling and erecting the tower was a community effort. Rory
Artig usually has a three person team for the installation. But they
could not make it this time. So, three Alderman; Ron Strohecker, Ed
Stern, and John Huggins, along with Dave Keiser of the CCEDC, and
The Fink brothers who are renting the farm from the City, all
pitched in to help. Rory says this is the first time a community has
helped with the construction. |
